Apple Mac OS X Lion, a recent release of Apple for Macintosh-based computer systems, can be referred to as the start of the next generation of operating systems for personal computers. This version of the operating system brings the features of Apple’s iOS to the standard computer and reassures the Mac users that Apple has not forgotten them with the advent of handheld devices like iPhone or iPad. This version of Mac OS boasts of brand new features like Finder, Launchpad, Mission Control and many others. Actually there are 250 of them, and the changes are brought not only to the appearance but also to the back-end features that have been enhanced to a great extent.

The new feel of the operating system can be sensed right from the login screen which now has features strikingly similar to that of iOS. There is no doubt that the Mac OS X Lion is inspired by the iOS series of operating systems for Apple handheld devices.

The Finder window has also undergone an iOS-like modification with all icons now displayed in grey. The search operation for a file is also enhanced by adding a Search Token which automatically predicts the name of the file to be searched for, making it quicker for the user to type in the name.

Launchpad is another new remarkable feature in Mac OS X Lion. It is an application which converts the regular Mac interface into an iOS interface where the files can be placed randomly or put in a folder. This application remains synced with the addition and removal of applications from the computer either via Mac App Store or manually.

Mission Control is another intelligent feature added to this version of Mac OS which itself aligns the applications depending on their usage. The needed application automatically comes to the top and the focus on other applications is minimized. This feature helps to quickly jump between different applications.

Screen space management has also been revised to give a better look for the user and assist them in reaching the required application.

At the end we can conclude that the Apple Mac OS X Lion has significantly improved compared with its predecessor Snow Leopard and curbed more towards the iOS interface.
